I have two fireplaces in my home, and I can’t wait to show you how I styled my fireplace Christmas decor this year! Decorating for Christmas is my absolute favorite. I throw on a festive sweater, turn up my favorite Josh Groban Christmas playlist, and dive into the holiday spirit. Each fireplace has it’s unique look, but I’ve used similar elements to keep a cohesive style throughout my home.
At the top of this post, you’ll see my cozy living room fireplace with its long, low mantel and built-in shelves on either side. Below, I’ve included a close-up of the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace I built in our dining room. It has a smaller mantel but still makes a big statement!
I often get asked how I hang my fireplace Christmas decor, and most people are surprised by my answer— I use screws! Yes, even on the mantel I crafted myself. I add one screw at each end of the mantel, sticking out just enough to hold garlands securely. While Command hooks are an option, I find screws are faster, sturdier, and leave barely noticeable marks on the mantel’s surface.
For the garland, I doubled up layers of pine to create a fuller, more luxurious look. This pine garland is one of my go-to pieces for fireplace Christmas decor. It looks incredibly realistic, and since it’s durable, I use it year after year.
To add some texture and make it even fuller, I like to weave in a layer of this eucalyptus garland.
To add texture, I weave in some eucalyptus garland for a fresh touch, followed by a homemade dried orange slice garland for a bit of color and charm.
Now it’s time for those little touches that complete the look. I added rustic brass bells for a vintage feel, and they sit perfectly on the mantel.
For height and balance, I used battery-operated candles, which come with a convenient remote for easy control. Finally, a few frayed chiffon ribbon bows tie the whole look together.
I finished things off with a couple of bows made from this gorgeous frayed chiffon ribbon, and just like that, my dining room fireplace Christmas decor is complete!
On my dining room fireplace, I made sure to balance the decor. The garland hangs lower on the left, offset by taller candlesticks on the right. A mirror above the mantel draws the eye upward and beautifully reflects the candlelight at night.
My dining room is right at the bottom of the staircase, and I decorated it using many of the same elements—orange slice garlands, brass bells, and red bows—to keep the theme consistent between the spaces.
For the fireplace Christmas decor in this space, I stuck with the same pine and eucalyptus garlands I used on the stairs and dining room mantel, keeping a simple, classic, and traditional look.
I added strands of brass bells on each side of the mantel and hung beautiful red stockings. And yes, you guessed it—more screws! I used screws to secure the garlands and stockings, making sure everything stayed perfectly in place. I even staggered six screws to get the stockings hanging at the right heights.
For lighting, I added the same battery-operated fairy lights I used to decorate the staircase. With their built-in timer, it’s easy to set them up to turn on each day without any hassle.
To finish the mantel, I styled it with wooden nutcrackers and tree-shaped candles in rustic brass holders, tying the whole look together with timeless holiday charm.
This simple and classic fireplace Christmas decor creates the perfect holiday atmosphere in the living room, especially since it’s also where we set up the Christmas tree. I wanted the decor to flow together, and I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. For links to everything I used on the tree, you can check that out here.
I really can’t say enough about how amazing these garlands are. They look so realistic and are perfect for fireplace Christmas decor, staircases, windows, or even over doors. They’re a must-have for my holiday decorating!
My classic fireplace Christmas decor was the perfect backdrop for our fancy, sit-down Christmas dinner.
It also made the room feel festive and fun for our Christmas party with friends. It really was just the perfect backdrop to a well-used and loved room all season long.
In case you haven’t figured this out yet, I really get into decorating at Christmastime. That of course includes our front porch. Click here to see how I created this welcoming entryway and get links to everything I used.
