Future Plan For The Montenegro Clan

In my stories, I’ve been casually dropping bombs about how we’re moving next year, and it made me realize that not many people were expecting that. So what’s the skinny?! Well, lemme tell ya.

As you know, Stuart is in the military and is a Resident Doc. Our Residency program is a 3 year program, so when we moved to Omaha, it was always meant to be only a 3 year stint. Given my job as a content creator, we opted to buy and fix up a house to provide content for my social media channels, which I think has many of you confused about why we’re putting so much into a home we never intended to stay in for very long. It’s a business thing, plus I like doing it, so it’s a fun gig for me.

The next step after residency is for Stuart to begin his military payback, which means that he will work as a Doctor for the military for the 4 years they paid for medical school. One option is to wait for the military to send us a list of all available locations for our next station that we can then rank from our most to least preferred. Then the military will use an algorithm to match everyone as closely as possible to their top choices.

The second option that Stuart is leaning toward is to apply for positions as Staff at a military Residency program. There are only 6 available military residency programs in the country: one here in Omaha, where we’ve been for the last three years; Washington, D.C, St. Louis, Las Vegas, Destin, and Sacramento.

Florida is our top choice, but it only has one or two spots, so it’s more competitive. We’re also interested in St. Louis, which has four spots open, increasing our chances of being matched there. If we don’t get into one of our preferred programs, we’ll be placed into the general ranking and could end up anywhere in the country.

As much as we love Omaha, we aren’t very interested in staying here, mainly for one reason: We are adventurous at heart, and if we’re going to go the military doctor route, we want to experience as many different parts of the country as possible before we separate from the military and settle down somewhere. We probably won’t be sent overseas due to Lolly’s medical needs, as they usually avoid placing families with medically needy members at smaller or foreign bases without a large hospital nearby.

We’ve been in this residency program for two years, with one more year to go. Hopefully, by December, we’ll know if Stuart has been accepted into a staffing program. If not, we’ll find out in January where we’re headed next.

Some of you have asked if I’m sad to leave our house and all the work we’ve put into it. Honestly, not really! I don’t get too attached to things. It’s been a fun project, and now I’m excited to move on to whatever’s next.

So that’s where things stand. We’re in the middle of the application process right now, but as is standard with the military, we won’t know anything for sure until the end of the year.

Hope this clears things up!
